About
In 2010, Offscreen Expeditions will take a team of young people (16-21 years) from Kuwait, Jordan and Qatar on the journey of a lifetime to the UK. The young people selected to come on the expedition have shown excellent communications skills and have the potential to become leaders in their communities when they return.
For the successful applicants, the first stage is the actual expedition. The team will have the opportunity to meet, talk to and work with a broad range of people from politicians to artists and from journalists to farmers, as well as a lot of young people from across the UK. They will travel from multicultural London to the hills of Yorkshire and then back via some of the UK’s largest cities from 11-25 July.
During the expedition the team will record their travels, contacts and experiences first hand, producing a cultural ‘travelogue’ of art, photography, film and thoughts. This content will be uploaded to our award-winning expedition website and will be accessed by schools and young people across the UK, Middle East and the world. They will be at the heart of making educational resources that will be shared with young people globally.
“This interactive educational expedition marks a real step forward in allowing young people from the Middle East and the UK to have the chance to discuss important issues and develop as positive voices in their communities,” says Offscreen Expeditions Director, Jamie Buchanan-Dunlop.
“We are so used to seeing the Middle East through western eyes and I think it will be exciting and deeply insightful to see how young people from the Middle East see us,” adds co-director Stephen Stapleton.
Offscreen Expeditions hopes this journey will be followed closely by students and teachers across the Middle East and the UK as the expedition uses the latest satellite and web technology to communicate from the field to the classroom.
This expedition follows the success of Offscreen Expedition’s journeys to the UK in July 2008 (http://www.offscreened.com/expedition/2008/) and to Dubai and Oman in February 2007 (http://www.offscreened.com/expedition/2007/).
